500 miles and Rocky Mountain Express at the Imax

Kirsten and I saw the Imax movie Rocky Mountain Express at the Museum of Science.  https://www.imax.com/movies/m/rocky-mountain-express/   The slow, lovely rendition of 500 Miles by Peter, Paul and Mary is featured as a counterpoint to the engineering and construction challenges.

It’s a film about Canada, but a similar story could be told about building the railway across the United States. We live in a big country that pulls people out to the edges and to the corners. There is a disintegrating energy at work in our great land. It’s the peculiar immigrant/American version of the universal human experience of saying goodbye to familiar places and people, and never finding one’s way back there to them.
