My Heart Leaps Up by William Wordsworth
My heart leaps up when I behold A rainbow in the sky: So was it when my life began; So is it now when I am a man; So be it when I shall grow old, Or let me die! The Child is father of the Man; And I could wish my days to be Bound each to each by natural piety.
Hence in a season of calm weather
Though inland far we be,
Our souls have sight of that immortal sea
Which brought us hither,
Can in a moment travel thither,
And see the children sport upon the shore,
And hear the mighty waters rolling evermore.

“The child is father to the man.” Those are words one cannot forget, but they are an eloquent witness to continuity and ask that we prepare the child for his role.
